The Real Anatomy of Technology
Project Description: The Renaissance was a period in art history where exploration, developed understanding, and a desire to know how things worked was of paramount focus. Artists such as Michelangelo would take their studies of the human form to the next level by dissecting cadavers to learn how the body works and to gain an understanding of how they could bring more realistic life into their sculptures of the figure. In this assignment students will be taking a look at the interior of something else that has seemingly taken a life of its own in our day and age: electronic devices.
Processes and Activities: Students were shown a slideshow featuring work and discovery of artists from the Renaissance through the Baroque era in art history. We discussed how artists were beginning to dissect cadavers in order to truly understand the interior workings of the human form.
Driving Questions:
*Who do you know that could speak about living a life that utilized little to no technology? Talk to this person. Consider how to approach this person using some form of technology to enhance conversation or an interview to reduce a generational gap. Create questions that have the potential to enhance your relationship with your contact. Plan how this activity can lead to a meaningful learning experience about putting technology to good use that you can share in class.
