Still Life on Canvas
Title: Still Life on Canvas
Type of Project: Guided Exploration
Project Description: Students will explore the genre of Still Life and create a unique composition using food items in this style. Students will apply blending, shading and texturing techniques using acrylic paint.

Students observed a demonstration on different painting techniques from their instructor and then created a painting preparation piece that works with volumetric forms and shading before they tackled this still life project. Students drew inspiration from what other artists have previously done while working in this genre and created their own unique still life painting.
Evaluation Criteria:
1. Students understand what a genre is in art
2. Students will recognize and define criteria which makes a painting a still life.
3. Students will create a composition that demonstrates depth in space and the ability to communicate a volumetric form.
4. Students will use good techniques such as painting around the edge of the canvas, employing a subject matter, surface, foreground and background.
5. Students will use paint mixing to create volumetric forms and not rely on black for shadows.
6. Students will use good studio clean up habits and care toward brushes and other materials.
7. Students will exhibit a control over the paint.
